Murphy's Law Revisited

|   Index   |

And here for you combat veterans are a few gems of Murphy's Laws of Combat as drawn up by retired Army Sgt. First Class Wayne Phipps and published in his book.

  • There are only two rules in war: Rule 1 - There are no rules.
Rule 2 - See rule one.
  • Military intelligence can be a contradiction in terms.
  • The easy way is always mined.
  • Incoming fire has the right of way.
  • Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.
  • If the enemy is within range, so are you.
  • Never draw fire. It irritates everyone around you.
  • No combat ready unit ever passed inspection.
  • Don't look conspicuous. It draws fire.
  • Teamwork is essential. It gives them other people to shoot at.
  • Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you.
  • Remember, your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
  • If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
  • Try to look unimportant. They may be low on ammo.
  • Don't worry about the one 'with your name on it.' It is the one addressed: 'To whom it may concern.'
