COMPANY "B"
78TH ARMORED MEDICAL BATTALION
U. S. ARMY

For month ending: 31 January 1945

SUBJECT: After Action Report.
TO:Commanding Officer, 78th Armored Medical Battalion,
APO 258, US Army.

SECTION I   PERSONNEL
In the month of January, this company lost one Enlisted Man, gained none. All men present for duty were paid; all were given routine monthly physical inspection and were found free from communicable diseases.

SECTION II   INTELLIGENCE:
Special precautionary measures were taken to insure security in preparation for movement to the continent.

SECTION III   OPERATIONS:
On 2 January, the company left Tidworth Barracks, in battalion convoy, for Portland Docks, England, where we boarded LSTís preparatory to crossing the Channel. After crossing without incident, we landed at Le Havre, France; then convoyed with stops of one or more nights (cf. below), to Pont-A-Mousson, France.

Immediately upon arrival in Pont-A-Mousson, we set up clearing station and company in a bombed factory. Most of our patients were self-inflicted would casualties and routine sick-call cases from detachments. We spent the rest of the month here without incident save for call one night to handle three extremely bad mine casualties. Despite the fact that we had not expected to be called on for such extreme cases, every one - the Clearing Platoon in particular - deserves congratulation for the ability and cooperation shown in our first real emergency. From this occasion and from Company A, just returned from combat support, we learned much that was valuable in later operations.

The following is a list of places covered by this company in the month of January:
    1 January, Tidworth, England
    2 January, Chicorall, England
3 January, On Board LST (Portland Docks)
    4 January, Biville-la-Baignarde, France
    8 January, Thuisy, France
    13 January, Pont-A-Mousson, France

SECTION IV   SUPPLY:
Supplies were adequate and easily obtained.

SECTION V COMMAND:
Men from the Collecting Platoon were dispatched to detachments in the Combat Command with their ambulances. Morale was high and all duties were performed with maximum efficiency.
